Provence Pouch, Japanese Rice Pouch, Komebukuro Bag, Pocket, Patchwork and Hand-stitched

Provence Pouch- This drawstring bag or pouch is ideal as a project bag -- knitting, sewing, etc.) or go-anywhere bag. Traditionally these "Boro" bags were repaired and strengthened for extended use with hand-stitching and adding patchwork fabrics. This one begins it's life sturdy.

I designed the four panels with carefully chosen French fabrics from Provence and added pieces of re-cycled Kantha quilting (the pocket) and cotton quilting for added strength. You will see examples of sashiko stitching (the diagonals,) and the plain running stitch.  I used a plain, organic cotton muslin for the lining and contrasting cotton for the drawstring tabs.  The bottom panel is a piece taken from the original, vintage French cotton tablecloth that inspired this bag. Many hours (lovingly) go into producing this 7 x 7" pouch. Pattern by Karen Stevens, copyright @2018. @kzstevens
