Garden Pouch, Japanese Rice Bag, Komebukuro Bag, Pocket, Patchwork and Hand-stitched

Garden Pouch- This drawstring bag or pouch is ideal as a project bag -- knitting, sewing, etc.) or go-anywhere bag. Traditionally these "Boro" bags were repaired and strengthened for extended use with hand-stitching and adding patchwork fabrics. This one begins it's life sturdy.

These four panels feature the gorgeous hand-printing of Sara Parker's textiles. I have embellished bits with embroidery ad appliqué her (Georgia) Thrasher bird. You will see examples of sashiko stitching (the diagonals,) and  Kaku-Shippo over-stitched on the gray leaves. The anchor panel is done by quilt-as-you-go  I used an organic linen for the lining and contrasting cotton for the drawstring tabs.

Seams ore pinked and double sewn. The bag is topstitched on the opening edge, and the lining is tacked in the corners. Many hours (lovingly) go into producing this 7 x 7" pouch. Pattern by Karen Stevens, copyright @2018. @kzstevens
